THE CROSS

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross.”

— 1 Peter 2:24

Love that would not turn back

Eventually, Jesus’ way of love brings Him into direct confrontation with the powers of this world.

He is betrayed.

Rejected.

Condemned.

Beaten.

Crucified.

But the Cross is not simply the story of what human beings did to Jesus.

It is also the revelation of what God is like.

Jesus does not answer violence with greater violence.

He does not call down destruction upon His enemies.

He forgives.

He gives Himself.

He remains faithful to love all the way to death.

The Cross becomes the place where sin, violence, shame, accusation and death are brought into the light — and where God refuses to abandon humanity.

Love goes all the way.

Even here.

Especially here.
