THE
POWERS
“He disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
— Colossians 2:15
When love defeats evil
The New Testament speaks about more than personal sin.
It speaks about powers and principalities, accusation, deception, bondage, death and the devil.
satan is not God’s equal.
He is not an opposite god fighting an equal battle.
God has no rival.
Yet Scripture takes seriously the reality of evil and the powers that enslave and accuse humanity.
And Jesus comes to confront them.
The astonishing thing is how He defeats them.
Not by becoming like them.
Not through domination.
Not through retaliation.
But through the way of the Lamb.
Jesus absorbs the violence of the powers without becoming violent Himself.
He exposes their lies.
He breaks their accusation.
He enters death.
And then—
death cannot hold Him.
The powers do not have the final word.
Love does.
